The Project takes its name from Hamo Bek-Nazarov (1891 – 1965), an Armenian actor, writer and director who worked in Russia, Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan and made films about Kurds, Chechens and Uzbeks. Since the collapse of the Soviet Union, the remarkable cinematic heritage of both Transcaucasia and Central Asia has fallen into neglect. This project sets out to restore, rediscover and re-evaluate the cinematic legacies of these countries by establishing a network between regional film agencies, national archives, international restoration specialists, fund raisers, academic researchers, film programmers and distributors.
